Mike Tyson fights Jake Paul at heavyweight in his comeback to the boxing ring

Mike Tyson has responded to those who have criticised his return matchup with Jake Paul, saying they are only ‘jealous’ of his fame. Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson are facing off at AT&T Stadium on July 20, 2024.

Last month, Tyson declared he would be returning to the ring to face the 27-year-old ex-YouTuber on July 20 at Texas’ AT&T Stadium, which holds 80,000 seats. The bout will stream live on Netflix.

By the time the former two-time heavyweight champion steps into the ring, he would be fifty-eight years old. Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed his sadness at the fighter’s decision to make a comeback, while Mexican sensation Canelo Alvarez declared he had no interest in the bout.

The Texas Department of Licencing and Regulations has approved the Paul vs Tyson fight (TDLR). The heavyweight professional boxing match consists of eight rounds, each lasting two minutes, and is contested using 14-ounce gloves.

Mike Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) last competed in a professional fight in Washington, D.C. in June 2005. The previous unchallenged heavyweight champion was defeated by RTD in the sixth round vs Kevin McBride.

The 57-year-old Brooklyn native competed in an eight-round exhibition bout against fellow boxing veteran Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020 in Los Angeles, which finished in a split draw. This was his most recent ring performance.

In March of this year, Jake Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) stopped Ryan Bourland in the first frame of their cruiserweight fight in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With a winning run of three fights, the 27-year-old native of Cleveland makes his heavyweight debut.

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul will take off at a Texas arena with 80,000 seats

Everyone is jealous, even the majority of athletes. An arena couldn’t be sold out. Who, at fifty-eight, can pack an 80,000-seat arena? What makes you believe that he wants to fight me and no one else?

Every boxer wants to take him on. However, only those who like him would show up if he engaged in combat with them. Perhaps none of their parents will even come watch them.

Tyson has struggled with health problems ever since ending his professional career over two decades ago. At one point, he was wheelchair-bound due to sciatica.

However, he assisted in preparing Francis Ngannou for his bout with Tyson Fury last year, in which the former UFC champion came dangerously close to pulling off a major shock, and in recent months, he has improved his physical state.

Even though his battle with Paul is still over three months away, “Iron Mike” has already begun his training camp and posted videos of his exercises on social media.
